Dr. Jamie L. McConaha serves as Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, concurrently practicing as an embedded ambulatory care pharmacist with Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh. She manages chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and tobacco use disorder through comprehensive medication management, diabetes education, and tobacco cessation counseling within primary care settings.
Education:
- PharmD, Duquesne University (2007)
As a nationally recognized dermatology educator, Dr. McConaha teaches courses on acne, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and cosmeceutical therapies while delivering invited presentations for Pharmacy Times, ASHP, and AMCP. Her research focuses on advancing pharmacist integration in team-based care, chronic disease management, and tobacco cessation within ambulatory settings, emphasizing expanded clinical pharmacy services in outpatient environments.
Analysis of her 2011-2013 publications reveals consistent themes in medication therapy management for chronic conditions (diabetes, asthma), tobacco cessation program development, and dermatological pharmacotherapy. Her work demonstrates pharmacists' measurable impact on medication adherence, disease control, and healthcare access—particularly through community-based interventions targeting underserved populations and employer-sponsored health programs.
Dr. McConaha has secured $26,332 in research funding including a $10,000 Pfizer Medical Education Grant for smoking cessation classes and multiple Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association grants for medication adherence studies. She coordinates Duquesne's Tobacco Treatment Specialist certification program and mentors student pharmacists in research projects presented at national conferences.
Embedded within Allegheny Health Network's primary care teams, she collaborates with physicians on transitions of care while serving as American College of Clinical Pharmacy content expert since 2015 and Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Board Director for Alternative Practice Settings.
