Dr. Jamie A. Haverkamp (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at Bates College, with an affiliation as an Institute Affiliate at the Institute of Behavioral Science at CU Boulder (2024-2025). She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology & Environmental Policy from the University of Maine, Orono, an M.S. in Human Geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a B.A. in Visual Journalism from Brooks Institute of Photography. Her research focuses on the ethical and political dimensions of climate resilient development and adaptation planning, particularly through a care-based participatory approach with frontline climate justice communities. Current projects include ethnographic work with Peruvian Andean agropastoralists, engagement with the UNFCCC’s LCIPP, and studies on care-based adaptation among U.S. Latinx farmworkers.
Her expertise spans Latin America and the U.S., with disciplinary training in anthropology, human geography, and visual journalism. She is currently on academic leave to finalize an ethnographic manuscript examining colonial power structures in climate governance and advocating for Indigenous and agrarian adaptation frameworks.
Her teaching includes courses like Political Ecology of Climate Change and Indigenous Ecologies, reflecting her commitment to interdisciplinary environmental justice education. Research specialties include decolonial methodologies, climate justice, and feminist geographies.
