His research focuses on the political ecology of extractive industries in Latin America, exploring the intersections between human/environment relations, climate crisis, and social change. Drawing from human geography, anthropology, and critical Marxist theory, his work examines nature/society relations and the political ecology of value and extraction, with particular attention to indigenous and rural territories. His doctoral research investigated value theory and human/environment relations in southern Chile, while his current work examines value regimes, extractive infrastructure, and subjectivity in the Peruvian Amazon.
Dr Andueza's recent publications reveal strong thematic consistency centered on extractive industries, indigenous territorial strategies, and climate politics across Latin America. His research demonstrates interdisciplinary approaches combining geographical, anthropological, and political economic perspectives to analyze how communities navigate resource extraction, environmental change, and infrastructure development. The articles show particular focus on the Amazon region and Andean contexts, with methodological emphasis on participatory and ethnographic approaches.
Dr Andueza actively supervises PhD students interested in extractivism, socio-environmental conflicts, nature/society relations, climate justice, critical approaches to environment and development, and agrarian change in Latin America. His teaching portfolio includes Introduction to Development Studies, Development Theory and Emerging Economies, and Environment and Development: Crises, Power, and Transformations.
He is a member of multiple research groups at King's College London including the Global Production, Finance and Labour research group, the Global Capitalism, Power & Uneven Development research group, and the Climate, Environment, and Uneven Development research group. He also participates in the Critical Global Capitalism Studies Collective and the Creative Contestations and Social Justice research group, regularly contributing to events and discussions on topics such as extractivism, violence, indigenous movements, and climate coloniality.
