James Waller is the Christopher J. Dodd Chair in Human Rights Practice and Professor at the University of Connecticut, with joint appointments in the Gladstein Family Human Rights Institute and Department of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages.
Research examines psychological mechanisms enabling ordinary people to commit genocide, strategies for atrocity prevention, and human rights practice. Current projects study risk/resilience factors in post-conflict societies, particularly Northern Ireland. Develops educational frameworks for human rights advocacy and genocide awareness.
As Director of Dodd Human Rights Impact Programs, creates initiatives bridging academic research with human rights practice. Consults for UN Office on Genocide Prevention and leads international workshops on mass violence prevention.
