James Toner is a PhD researcher at the University of Sheffield's School of Information, Journalism and Communication. He concurrently serves as Head of Learning and Information Services for a multinational education provider in China. Previously, he held a Visiting Lecturer position at University College London Qatar, teaching their MA Library and Information Studies Programme. He is also a committee member for IFLA’s 'Library Services to Multicultural Populations' section.
His research focuses on library strategy, knowledge exchange in multicultural environments, leadership strategies, and organizational learning. Current projects include exploring knowledge sharing in international schools and analyzing cross-cultural charity projects. He has published widely on library practices supporting international students and information literacy in Ghanaian universities.
Key contributions include a 2019 study on UK university libraries' support for international students and 2022 publications on Ghanaian undergraduate information literacy and knowledge sharing in cross-cultural development projects. His work emphasizes culturally responsive library policies and organizational culture transformation.
Professional experience spans education leadership roles in the UK, Middle East, and Southeast Asia, with expertise in library service development. Supervised by Ana Vasconcelos and Pam McKinney, his PhD investigates individual/team dynamics in knowledge sharing within international schools.
