James Stern is a Professor and Coordinator of the String Division at the University of Maryland School of Music. He is a globally recognized violinist, chamber musician, and educator. His performances span prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the White House, and international festivals such as Marlboro and Ravinia. Stern is a core member of ensembles like the Stern/Andrist Duo and Strata, renowned for commissioning new works and performing innovative programs. He maintains active roles in teaching, having previously taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of the Pacific Conservatory. His recordings on labels like Albany and Bridge showcase his expertise in classical and contemporary repertoire.
