James Rhodes is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. His career includes an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Leeds (2008–2009), a Simon Research Fellowship at Manchester (2009–2012), and a visiting scholar role at Youngstown State University. He holds an honorary position at UCL and contributes to editorial work for Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power.
Research Interests: His work focuses on racism and ethnicity, urban processes (depopulation, deindustrialization, redevelopment), and urban inequalities/identities. He explores intersections with socioeconomic disadvantage and collaborates globally on comparative analyses.
Recent Publications: His 15 most recent articles (top 5 shown here) address trauma care ethics, urban marginalization, and racialized health disparities. Notable collaborations include the CENTER-TBI project and the ESRC Centre on Dynamics of Ethnicity (CoDE).
Projects: Active in CoDE (ethnicity dynamics) and the 'knowledge hub' on ethnic inequality. Previously contributed to the Enriching Social Science Teaching with Empirical Data (ESSTED) project.
