James Laurence is an ESRC Future Research Leaders Fellow at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research and the Department of Sociology at the University of Manchester. He joined the Institute for Social Change at Manchester in 2012 as a postdoctoral research associate on the 'Social Change: A Harvard-Manchester Initiative' (SCHMi) project. Prior to this, he held an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship and worked as a research fellow at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a visiting fellow at Stockholm University. He completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of Oxford in 2011.
Research Interests: Ethnic diversity, immigration, social cohesion, social capital, multi-level modelling, economic hardships, and ethnic inequalities in crime.
Awards: Recipient of the ESRC Future Research Leaders Fellowship.
Projects:
- Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Ethnic Diversity, Socio-Economic Inequality and Social Cohesion: Examines the role of ethnic diversity, immigration, and inequality in social capital and inter-group relations.
- Contributions to the Ethnicity and Migration initiative, collaborating on projects addressing migration patterns and societal impacts.
Labs/Teams: Active within interdisciplinary teams at the Cathie Marsh Institute and the Department of Sociology, focusing on sociological analyses of migration and diversity.
