James' research spans epidemiological studies of inflammatory conditions, including comorbidities like cardiovascular disease, mental health associations, and diagnostic delays. His recent projects, such as the IDEAL and FASTER studies, aim to improve referral processes and telehealth monitoring for axSpA patients. He actively contributes to academic governance, serving on the University Senate and external committees like the Royal College of General Practitioners’ Scientific Foundation Board and the British Society of Rheumatology’s Research and Registers committee. He is also an external examiner for Middlesex University’s MSc in Public Health.
His publications address topics like gout management, diagnostic barriers in axSpA, and public health initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa. He collaborates with institutions globally, including in Tanzania and Uganda, on integrated chronic disease management programs.
