معرفی
Dr James Perry is a Senior Research Associate at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, and a College Postdoctoral Associate at Jesus College. His academic career spans experimental physics with a focus on material behavior under extreme conditions.
His research interests center on high-rate dynamic properties of materials, particularly metals, granular materials, energetics and structural composites. Perry's work is experimentally driven, developing novel techniques to understand meso- and micro-scale phenomena controlling deformation and fracture processes. His specialization in Fracture and Shock Physics stems from his PhD research on silica sand under shock loading, which demonstrated how minute changes in grain-scale properties significantly alter material response.
As a Senior Research Associate, Perry leads experimental investigations into complex material systems. His prior industry experience in telecoms consulting informs his approach to predictive modeling and data analysis in materials research.
Perry completed all his formal education at Cambridge, earning a BA in Natural Sciences, MSci in Physics, and PhD in Physics. His academic journey included undergraduate studies through the Natural Sciences Tripos at Jesus College followed by PhD research in the Surfaces, Microstructure and Fracture (SMF) group at the Cavendish Laboratory.
Outside academia, Perry maintains interests in cycling, sailing, photography, and music, reflecting a well-rounded engagement beyond his research commitments.
