California Institute of Technology (Caltech)معرفی
James P. Eisenstein is the Frank J. Roshek Professor of Physics and Applied Physics, Emeritus at Caltech. His experimental research investigates strongly correlated electrons in low-dimensional systems using ultra-low temperatures and high magnetic fields.
Research focuses on:
- Quantum Hall effects in 2D electron systems
- Exciton condensation in bilayer structures
- Graphene electronic properties
- Thermal transport in nanoscale systems
Recent publications (2012-2019) demonstrate sustained focus on quantum phenomena in semiconductor heterostructures and graphene. Key trajectories include exciton condensation signatures, defect-mediated tunneling mechanisms, and quantum Hall nematic phases. The work combines sophisticated measurement techniques including tunneling spectroscopy and thermodynamic analysis.
No awards reported.
He has mentored numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the Condensed Matter Physics group. Research has been supported by sustained funding for experimental facilities requiring ultra-low temperature (15mK) and high-field (16 Tesla) capabilities.
Leads research groups investigating graphene, quantum Hall systems, and ultra-low temperature physics.
