Dr. James Otto Blanchette is a Lecturer and Graduate Director in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina's Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing. He holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas and a BS from Duke University, with prior roles including Research Assistant Professor and Assistant Professor.
His research integrates biomaterials design, therapeutic delivery, and tissue engineering, focusing on oral chemotherapy systems, pancreatic islet transplantation, stem cell vascularization, and hypoxia signaling in 3D cultures.
He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Introduction to Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, and Delivery of Bioactive Agents. Awards include the Promising Investigator Award and Capsugel Grand Prize for innovations in drug delivery and tissue engineering.
