Jessica Weaver is an Associate Professor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. Her research focuses on integrating biomaterials, drug delivery, and tissue/immune engineering to develop functional, immune-protected cell therapies. She teaches courses in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and advanced biomedical topics while leading research on immunomodulatory biomaterials for diabetes treatment and islet transplantation.
- Education: PhD from the University of Miami.
Research Interests: Weaver specializes in creating synthetic poly(ethylene glycol) hydrogels for cell encapsulation, engineering immunomodulatory strategies to eliminate chronic immunosuppression, and developing vascularized macroencapsulation devices for islet transplantation. Her work spans diabetes therapy, placental organoid engineering, and advanced biofabrication techniques.
Publication Trends: Recent articles highlight innovations in injection-molded hydrogels for cell therapy geometries, oxygen-quantifying macroencapsulation devices, immune-tolerant placental cell transplantation, and PD-1 signaling modulation for autoimmune applications.
