James Mancuso

James Mancuso, MD, DrPH, MPH is a Colonel (retired) and Professor & Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. His academic and military career spans 31 years, including leadership roles in global health, epidemiology, and military health systems. He holds a Doctor of Medicine and Public Health from USUHS and an MPH from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Research focuses on tuberculosis, HIV, health equity, and global health with over 70 peer-reviewed publications. Notable deployments include Iraq (1990/1-2003), Pakistan (2005/6), Japan (2011), and Liberia (2015). Leadership roles include Chief Consultant for Preventive Medicine to the Army Surgeon General and Board of Regents membership in the American College of Preventive Medicine.

Awards include the Delta Omega Honor Society (2000) and CAPT Hooper Memorial Award (1998). His work spans military health surveillance, vaccine strategies (e.g., TB/HIV/COVID-19), and health disparities in service members.
