James Lee is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Monash University, Faculty of Medicine, and serves as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) in General & Endocrine Surgery at both Alfred Hospital and Monash Health. James Lee earned his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2001, completed general surgery training at Austin Hospital, and became a qualified General Surgeon in 2010. He pursued advanced training in Endocrine Surgery at Austin and Royal North Shore Hospitals, including the T.S. Reeve International Fellowship. In 2011, he attended the Mayo Clinic’s Endocrine Surgery University. He received his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2014 for his work on thyroid cancer biomarkers.
His research focuses on improving patient experiences in thyroid cancer treatment, from diagnosis to surgery and beyond. He employs innovative approaches such as artificial intelligence in preoperative diagnosis and next-generation sequencing for indeterminate nodules. His work spans surgical techniques, biomarker discovery, and patient outcomes, contributing significantly to endocrine oncology.
The most recent publications highlight trends in AI-assisted diagnosis, surgical management of rare endocrine tumors, image-guided biopsies, and the impact of healthcare disruptions on cancer care. His research integrates clinical innovation with health economics and patient-centered outcomes.
