James Lambert is the Provost and Associate Professor of English at Southern Virginia University (2021–present). As Chief Academic Officer, he oversees academic operations and prioritizes student learning initiatives, combining administrative leadership with teaching and advising.

- B.A. in English, Brigham Young University (2003)
Dr. Lambert’s research focuses on Early Modern English literature and religious culture, with a strong emphasis on pedagogy. He advocates for education that cultivates critical thinking, teaching students how to learn independently. His courses span British literature, Shakespeare, Renaissance poetry, and writing instruction.
He has received prestigious Mellon and NEH fellowships and was named Faculty Mentor of the Year twice. As an administrator, he directed Southern Virginia’s Writing Center, chaired the Humanities Division, and contributed to the university’s Quality Enhancement Program.
