James L. Zehnder

James L. Zehnder, M.D., is a Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology and Medicine (Hematology). He serves as Director of Clinical Pathology, Molecular Pathology Fellowship, and the Coagulation Laboratory at Stanford University. His clinical focus spans cancer, hematology, and anatomic pathology.

• Education: MD from Tufts University School of Medicine (1984), BA in Chemistry from UC Santa Cruz (1979).

Dr. Zehnder's research addresses the molecular pathogenesis of blood disorders, including acquired cytopenias, genetic testing for inherited hematologic conditions, and somatic mutations in cancer. He employs next-generation sequencing for T/B cell clonality testing and minimal residual disease monitoring.

Recent publications highlight transcriptomic profiling in immune thrombocytopenia, STAT3 mutations in cyclic thrombocytopenia, and anticoagulation monitoring challenges during ECMO. His work on p53 immunohistochemistry and β2-transferrin analysis advances diagnostic pathology.

Clinical Trials: Dr. Zehnder has led studies on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, TP53-mutated leukemia, and NTRK inhibitors for cancer.
