Taha Bat

Taha Bat, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in hematology and oncology. He is affiliated with the Division of Hematology and Oncology and focuses on bone marrow failure syndromes, porphyria, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), and LGL leukemia. His research emphasizes cytopenia, hemostasis, and thrombocytopenia, with numerous peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Bat earned his medical degree from Hacettepe University (Istanbul, Turkey), completed an internal medicine residency at Northeast Ohio Medical University, and advanced training in bone marrow syndromes at the Cleveland Clinic and hematology/oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He joined UT Southwestern in 2020.

His research explores biomarkers like immature platelet counts for disease severity in conditions like PNH and aplastic anemia. He has contributed to studies on clonal evolution in myeloid neoplasms and thrombosis risk in PNH patients treated with novel therapies. His work integrates clinical practice, molecular genetics, and machine learning to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Dr. Bat actively advocates for bone marrow disorder awareness through organizations like the American Society of Hematology. His research themes include the clinical impact of genetic mutations (e.g., DNMT3A, TP53) in blood cancers and the utility of platelet-based biomarkers in critical illnesses like severe COVID-19.
