James Higgins is Professor of Plant Genetics at University of Leicester's Department of Genetics and Genome Biology. He holds a BSc in Biology from University of Nottingham and MSc in Crop Protection from University of Bristol, with a PhD focused on post-harvest physiology of broccoli.
Research integrates molecular genetics and practical agriculture, particularly in crop improvement strategies. His work on meiotic recombination in Arabidopsis and barley aims to develop resilient crop varieties for sustainable agriculture.
Current projects address 21st-century agricultural challenges through genomic approaches to enhance food security.
