Research Professor Arp Schnittger leads the Arbeitsgruppe at the Department of Biology, University of Hamburg, within the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technology. His research focuses on meiotic mechanisms, cell cycle regulation in plants, and the molecular basis of developmental processes. Key interests include understanding how meiosis contributes to genetic diversity, genome stability under stress, and plant-specific adaptations in cell division.
His work integrates live-cell imaging and genetic approaches to study chromosome dynamics, spindle architecture, and protein degradation pathways. Notable research themes include the role of synaptonemal complexes, cyclin-dependent kinases, and heat resilience factors in meiosis. Collaborations aim to translate findings into biotechnological applications for crop improvement.
Publications emphasize meiotic recombination, spindle checkpoint regulation, and the interplay between DNA damage and developmental programs. His lab employs Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system to explore fundamental biological questions with translational potential.
