James Heintz is Andrew Glyn Professor of Economics at UMass Amherst. His research analyzes employment policies, gender inequality, and macroeconomic reform in developing economies. He has advised UN agencies on poverty reduction strategies and co-authored UNDP reports on informal economies.
Research focuses on labor market inequalities, social protection systems, and the distributive impacts of economic policies. His field work spans Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa.
Honors include the Russian National Prize in Applied Economics for work on post-Soviet economies.
