Christian E. Weller is a Professor of Public Policy at the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies, University of Massachusetts Boston, and a Senior Fellow at American Progress. He also holds roles as a Research Scholar at the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at UMass Amherst and a Fellow at the UMass Boston Gerontology Institute. His expertise spans retirement income security, macroeconomics, international finance, and labor economics.
Weller holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research focuses on economic policy solutions to address wealth inequality, strengthen social security systems, and design equitable labor market policies. Notable contributions include co-authoring Retirement Income: The Crucial Role of Social Security and co-editing Employee Pensions: Policies, Problems and Possibilities.
He has received the Outstanding Scholar-Practitioner Award (2006) from the Labor and Employment Relations Association. Weller’s work frequently appears in prominent journals like the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management and media outlets such as the New York Times and USA Today. He has advised policymakers on issues ranging from climate resilience to baby bonds and has served in roles at the Economic Policy Institute and AFL-CIO.
