معرفی
James Gleason is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at McGill University. He completed his B.Sc. at McGill (1989), PhD at the University of Virginia (1994), and NIH postdoctoral training at Caltech. His research spans synthetic methods development, natural product total synthesis, and medicinal chemistry with a focus on multi-action hybrid drugs for cancer therapy.
Research Innovations: Professor Gleason pioneered hybrid drug molecules combining nuclear receptor ligands (e.g., vitamin D, retinoids) with histone deacetylase inhibitors, demonstrating enhanced anticancer activity. Notable examples include 'triciferol' for breast cancer treatment. His group develops catalytic asymmetric reactions and strategies for complex molecule synthesis.
Honors:
- NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship (1994-1996)
- Bio-Mega/Boehringer Ingelheim Young Investigator Award (1996)
- Research Innovation Award (1997)
- Multiple graduate fellowships (Phillip Morris, DuPont, Pratt)
Teaching: He teaches CHEM 532 (Structural Organic Chemistry) and CHEM 621 (Reaction Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry). His laboratory is located in Otto Maass 300.
