Dr. Jean-Philip Lumb is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at McGill University since 2017. He holds a B.A. from Cornell University (2002) and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley (2008). His research focuses on synthetic chemistry and catalysis, emphasizing sustainability and interdisciplinary approaches at the intersection of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. Key areas include green chemistry innovations, natural product synthesis, and metal-organic materials development.
Notable achievements include the Keith Fagnou Award (2019), Fessenden Professorship (2018), and multiple fellowships from NIH and the American Chemical Society. His work bridges fundamental science and practical applications, addressing global challenges like climate change and sustainable materials.
Teaching responsibilities include advanced organic chemistry courses (CHEM 482, 572, 629). His lab (Otto Maass 340) investigates biomimetic synthesis, radical reactions, and catalytic platforms inspired by biological systems. Collaborations span academic and industrial sectors, with a focus on translating discoveries into functional materials and therapeutic molecules.
