James G. Granneman is a Professor at Wayne State University with dual appointments in the Departments of Molecular Medicine and Genetics and Internal Medicine. He serves as Director of the Center for Integrative Metabolic and Endocrine Research (CIMER), located at the Integrative Biosciences Center in Detroit, Michigan.
- Education: PhD from University of Massachusetts (1981)
Research Focus: Dr. Granneman specializes in adipose tissue cell and molecular biology, therapeutic adipose tissue remodeling, and the molecular pharmacology of ABHD5 – a key target for metabolic disease and cancer. His work explores lipolysis activation biophysics, lipid droplet binding protein co-evolution, and single-cell functional genomics.
Publication Trends: His recent articles examine adipocyte lipolysis regulation, ABHD5 interactions, cold-activated fat innervation, and evolutionary lipid droplet biology across species, with methodological emphasis on single-cell profiling and pharmacological probes.
Mentoring: Dr. Granneman is accepting new M.S. and Ph.D. students for 2025-2026 cohorts, focusing on metabolic research and adipose biology.
