James E. Katz is the Feld Professor of Emerging Media Studies at Boston University’s College of Communication, leading the Division of Emerging Media Studies. Previously, he held the Board of Governors’ Distinguished Professor title at Rutgers University where he chaired the communication department. His work focuses on AI ethics, social media impacts, and human-robot interaction, with over 18,000 Google Scholar citations.

Research interests include the societal implications of new technologies, media ethics, and digital communication dynamics. He holds two patents and has received prestigious awards including the Frederick Williams Prize and Ogburn Career Achievement Award.
Recent projects explore robot rights frameworks and journalism's evolving truth mechanisms in social media ecosystems.
