Professor James Dunkerley teaches Politics at Queen Mary University of London's School of Politics and International Relations. His research examines Latin American political history, particularly Central America and Bolivia, and broader political ideas across the Atlantic world.
Holds BA from University of York, MPhil and DPhil from University of Oxford. Formerly Director of University of London's Institute for the Study of the Americas and editor of Journal of Latin American Studies.
Research interests span Latin American revolutionary movements, state formation, US/UK relations with Latin America, and intellectual history. Recent work explores utopian political thought and historical interpretations of revolutionary periods.
Publication analysis shows extensive contributions to Latin American political historiography, with methodological strengths in archival research, historical analysis, and critical edition preparation. Work often bridges political science and historical methodologies.
