James Doughty is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath. His research focuses on molecular recognition events and signaling between pollen and stigma in the Brassicaceae family, including Brassica oleracea and Arabidopsis thaliana.
Research interests include self-incompatibility (SI) mechanisms, S-locus genetics, SRK-SCR protein interactions, pollen coat proteomics, and molecular signaling during pollination. Key areas involve understanding S-specific recognition, pollen rejection processes, and gametophytic protein expression.
Recent publications highlight studies on pollen hydration bioassays, transposable element silencing, and cysteine-rich protein diversity at pollen-stigma interfaces. Collaborative work spans plant biology, biochemistry, and electrochemistry, with interdisciplinary applications in agriculture and materials science.
