James Daniel Lee is a Professor and Department Chair of Justice Studies at San José State University (SJSU), part of the College of Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University (1998), with prior degrees from the University of Florida (M.A., 1993) and University of Notre Dame (B.A., 1990). His research focuses on social psychology, deviant behavior, and applied sociology, particularly examining self-concept, juvenile delinquency, and identity theory. He has led studies evaluating programs like Sunday Friends and contributed to understanding barriers in disaster mitigation and college retention.
Lee serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Social Science and holds roles in the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS) and the Commission on the Accreditation of Programs in Applied and Clinical Sociology (CAPACS). His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, emphasizing community engagement and policy-relevant scholarship.
Key publications include explorations of juvenile delinquency and labeling theory, program evaluations, and studies on gender differences in identity development. His recent articles address contemporary issues in applied sociology and interdisciplinary collaboration.
