معرفی
James D Brien is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at the University of Kentucky and a member of the Markey Cancer Center. His research focuses on immune mechanisms governing durable B cell responses and antibody-mediated protection against severe viral diseases, particularly flaviviruses like dengue, Zika, and West Nile virus.
Education:
- BA in Biology, University of Rochester
- PhD in Immunology and Microbiology, Oregon Health & Science University
Research Interests: The Brien Lab investigates (1) mRNA vaccine platforms to correlate immunogenicity with protection against viral infection; (2) type I interferon modulation of B cell responses; and (3) viral evolution to escape antibody responses. Their work integrates immunology, virology, and molecular genetics to combat emerging pathogens.
Publications Trends: Recent studies emphasize vaccine development (mRNA and VLP approaches), interferon signaling, flavivirus cross-reactivity, and metabolic influences on immunity. Key viral targets include dengue, Zika, SARS-CoV-2, and Powassan virus.
Laboratory Activities: The lab actively recruits technicians and students to support ongoing research in viral immunology and vaccine design.
