James Corazzo is an Associate Professor at Sheffield Hallam University’s Department of Art and Design within the College of Social Sciences and Arts. He also serves as Associate Head of the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute. His work bridges leadership, teaching, and research in design education, focusing on equity and transformative educational practices.
As a National Teaching Fellow (2022), he challenges normative design pedagogy by democratizing critique sessions and developing reflexive tools for student engagement. His research explores the intersection of people, places, and materials in creative education, using ethnographic and creative methods.
James co-founded the Graphic Design Educators’ Network (GDEN) in 2014, which now has over 500 members and hosts annual conferences to advance design education. He contributes to academic leadership through roles on advisory boards, editorial panels, and as an External Examiner.
His publications, including the 2025 co-authored book Studio Properties: A Field Guide to Design Education, examine studio materiality, spatial practices, and curriculum innovation. His PhD by Publication investigates the role of materiality in the design studio.
