James Brennan

James Brennan is a Lecturer in the Foundation Year program at Newman University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies. He holds a Master's in Contemporary History from the University of Birmingham and is completing a PhD at Liverpool Hope University and Newman University focusing on inter-war British political culture. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he specializes in leveraging AI and new technologies in teaching.

Research focuses on provincial political cultures in 20th century Britain, gendered political language, and modernity dynamics. His work examines press-politics interactions in Birmingham 1918-1929, with notable contributions to studies of women's political representation and regional press conflicts.

Teaching spans Foundation Year program coordination, History/Applied Humanities modules, and innovative pedagogical approaches using AI. He has presented at multiple conferences including Oxford Brookes University (2019) and Midland History Postgraduate Conference (2017).
