Dr. James Baggott-Brown is a Senior Lecturer and Subject Coordinator for Critical Studies in Fine Art, Photography, and Creative Arts Practice at Bath Spa University's Bath School of Art, Film and Media. He also serves as Higher Degrees Tutor, overseeing Postgraduate Research recruitment and delivery.

His research focuses on British art criticism (1980–2000), particularly through the lens of Modern Painters magazine and its editor Peter Fuller. He explores the evolution of curatorial practices in fine art education, advocating for a shift from studio-centric to contextualized art practice. Recent work analyzes network theory in global art and non-traditional curatorial strategies.
Baggott-Brown's publications span art market dynamics, cultural authority, and pedagogical innovation. He supervises PhD students examining painting practice through theoretical frameworks and is a member of the Association for Art History.
