James Andean is a Senior Lecturer at De Montfort University's Leicester Media School within the Computing, Engineering and Media faculty. His work bridges music composition, sound art, and interdisciplinary performance. He leads the BSc Music Production programme and is affiliated with the Music, Technology and Innovation (MTI) research group.
Research Interests
Andean focuses on electroacoustic composition, acousmatic music, sound diffusion, improvisation, and sonic narratives. His work explores intersections between sound, motion, and narrative structures across disciplines.

His 2023 article 'Group Performance Paradigms in Free Improvisation' examines collective musical dynamics. Notable outputs include the 2019 CD 'Assemblance(s)' and the 2015 installation 'Re:****Sitruuna ja meduusa' which won awards in both sound art and digital arts categories.
