James A. Tulsky is a prominent Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, with extensive roles in psychosocial oncology and palliative care. He serves as the Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Chair of the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Co-Director of the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care.

His research focuses on improving communication between oncologists and patients with advanced cancer, identifying end-of-life trajectories, developing self-management interventions for life-limiting illnesses, and exploring palliative care in congestive heart failure. He has published widely on doctor-patient communication and quality of life in serious illness.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tulsky has received significant recognition, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the George L. Engel Award. He co-founded VitalTalk, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing clinician-patient communication through skills training.
