Dr. James A. Grymes is a Professor of Musicology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with affiliate appointments in the Department of History and the Holocaust, Genocide, & Human Rights Studies program. Renowned for his scholarship and teaching, he has received prestigious awards including the National Jewish Book Award and accolades from the American Musicological Society. His research focuses on Holocaust music history, Jewish cultural heritage, and music pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on Hungarian composer Ernst von Dohnányi’s resistance to Nazi persecution and Cold War-era challenges.
