Nechama Tec is a renowned Professor of Sociology at the University of Connecticut at Stamford and one of the world's leading Holocaust scholars. Her research explores human interaction under extreme conditions, focusing on genocidal violence, Jewish resistance, altruism, and gender dynamics during the Holocaust.
Her seminal works include Defiance: The Bielski Partisans (1993) and When Light Pierced the Darkness (1986), analyzing Christian rescue efforts in Nazi-occupied Poland and Jewish resistance strategies. Her 2003 book Resilience and Courage was Pulitzer-nominated for its groundbreaking examination of gender roles in Holocaust resistance.
She actively contributes to Holocaust education as a member of the President's Council at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and serves on the Academic Advisory Committee at its Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.
