Jamal Chaouki

Jamal Chaouki is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He holds a Ph.D. from Polytechnique Montréal and has been recognized with prestigious awards including the John R. Grace Award (2024) and the Kalev Pugi Prize (2021). His work focuses on high-pressure/high-temperature chemical processes, reactor design, and waste valorization.

Chaouki’s research interests span chemical reactor simulation, microwave-assisted industrial processes, hydrodynamics of multiphase reactors, and powder technology. His team develops methodologies for clean combustion, biorefining, and environmental engineering, with a focus on practical applications.

Recent work analyzes microwave heating reactors for syngas production, hydrogen generation from plastic waste, and AI-enhanced particle tracking in industrial systems. These studies emphasize process optimization, catalyst development, and techno-economic analysis.

Chaouki supervises 8 active Ph.D. students and has mentored 56 Ph.D. and 38 Master’s students since 1990. He leads the Pearl Advanced Process Engineering Research Laboratory and is the Chairholder of the TOTAL Industrial Chair in Hydrodynamic Modeling of Multiphase Processes Under Extreme Conditions. His projects often integrate environmental engineering and industrial sustainability.
