Jakub Borowczyk

Jakub Borowczyk is a Polish opera singer, countertenor, and musicologist affiliated with the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. He serves as a lecturer in the Department of Vocal and Acting, where he contributes to vocal training and performance education. Born in 1989, Borowczyk has established himself as a versatile performer across multiple musical genres and periods.

His educational background includes:

• Diploma with distinction from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (2019) in singing under Prof. Piotr Kusiewicz
• Bachelor's degree in musicology from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (2011)
• Currently participating in the Doctoral School of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk (since 2023)

Borowczyk's research and performance interests span a wide range of musical traditions, with particular focus on contemporary classical music, early music, and folk traditions. His work demonstrates a commitment to bridging historical performance practices with modern interpretations through collaborations with major opera institutions across Poland.

Borowczyk has received several prestigious awards and scholarships recognizing his artistic contributions, including national vocal competitions and cultural support from regional and national authorities.

As an active performer, Borowczyk has collaborated with major Polish opera institutions including the Baltic Opera, Warsaw Chamber Opera, Polish Royal Opera, and Krakow Opera, with notable performances spanning from Baroque works to contemporary premieres including Zygmunt Krauze's "Bona Sforza" in November 2024.

He is also the originator and co-founder of the minimalist music project NEXT TO NOTHING and, since 2025, performs as part of the Minimal Project duo with Igor Torbicki, expanding his artistic expression beyond traditional opera performance.
