Jakob Johann Assmann is a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Zurich (Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies & Remote Sensing Laboratories, Department of Geography) and previously worked at Aarhus University and Dartmouth College. He obtained his PhD in Ecological Science from the University of Edinburgh in 2019 under supervision of Isla Myers-Smith, Ally Phillimore, and Richard Ennos.
- Research Focus: Global change impacts on Arctic and temperate ecosystems, observational scale effects on ecological inference, vegetation change, plant diversity
- Technical Expertise: Field observations, spatial ecology, remote sensing, drone operations (established COAT drone-monitoring program, member of HiLDEN network)
- Teaching: Spatial ecology, remote sensing, and programming at University of Zurich; former instructor for Geoscience Outreach course at University of Edinburgh
- Fieldwork Experience: Nunavut, Yukon, Svalbard, Greenland
