Signe Normand is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Aarhus University specializing in Ecoinformatics and Biodiversity. Her research focuses on understanding ecological responses to anthropogenic and natural drivers while developing actionable models for biodiversity conservation under global change. She leads multiple high-impact research initiatives including SustainScapes and SABiOS.
Her work centers on four interconnected pillars: (i) empirical studies of ecological patterns across spatiotemporal scales, (ii) developing predictive models for global change impacts on biodiversity, (iii) pioneering drone-based remote sensing integrated with satellite/airborne systems for vegetation monitoring, and (iv) creating spatially explicit solutions for biodiversity recovery. This approach bridges field ecology with cutting-edge technology to address conservation crises through methodological innovation.
Professor Normand directs significant research funding including SustainScapes: Center for Sustainable Landscapes under Global Change (starting 11 August 2025), SABiOS: guiding Sustainable Agriculture and Biodiversity management with earth Observing Satellites (2025-2030), and Collaboration on Nature-based Solutions for Sustainable Cities (2023-2027). These projects demonstrate her leadership in translating ecological research into practical conservation frameworks through interdisciplinary collaboration.
