Jake A Johnson serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Studies at Bowie State University. He earned his Ed.D. in Counseling and Human Development from The George Washington University (1986), complemented by an M.A. in Higher Education Administration and a B.A. in Psychology and History from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
Johnson's research centers on Multicultural Counseling and Workplace Stress, exploring how cultural competence enhances therapeutic outcomes and how occupational stressors impact mental health. His clinical background as a therapist for over three decades informs his scholarly work, emphasizing practical applications in counseling settings.
His publications from 2010 to 2018 reveal a trajectory toward integrative therapeutic approaches, combining cognitive and emotion-focused techniques for emotional distress, mindfulness for trauma recovery, and cross-cultural counseling efficacy.
