Sonji Gregory

Dr. Sonji Gregory is an Associate Professor of Counseling in the School of Counseling at the College of Adult and Graduate Studies, Colorado Christian University (CCU), where she has served since 2021. She previously contributed to a CCCU institution by helping establish a fully online CACREP-accredited counseling program and has extensive experience developing and teaching online counseling courses.

Dr. Gregory is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor (LPCC-S) in Ohio with over two decades of clinical experience, specializing in child, adolescent, and family counseling, particularly in foster care and adoption transitions. Her research interests span multicultural counseling, adolescent development, marital and family dynamics in missionary contexts, spirituality in mental health, and online clinical supervision. She integrates faith and counseling in both practice and pedagogy.

Her publications reflect a strong focus on trauma, identity, and resilience across diverse populations, including missionaries, racially mixed individuals, and school communities affected by violence. She has contributed book chapters on adolescent counseling and multicultural advocacy and published in journals such as The Journal of Psychology and Theology and International Journal of Emergency Mental Health. Her work emphasizes social justice, cultural competence, and holistic wellness.

Dr. Gregory has received notable recognition, including:

• Co-recipient of the Chi Sigma Iota (2018) Outstanding Chapter Individual Program Award for the Mind, Soul, and Body Mental Health Fair

She has held leadership roles in professional organizations, including Former President of the Ohio College Counseling Association (OCCA) and Former Advisor of the Chi Sigma Iota Mu Alpha Omega Chapter. She actively presents at national conferences such as the American Counseling Association (ACA), Ohio Counseling Association (OCA), and Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). Dr. Gregory also volunteers in pre-marital and marital pastoral counseling with her husband, Rev. Douglas Gregory.
