Jairo Giraldo Trujillo

Jairo Giraldo Trujillo is a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Utah, and a member of the Utah Smart Energy Laboratory. His academic background includes a BS in Electronic Engineering (2010) from National University of Colombia, and MS (2012) and PhD (2015) in Electrical Engineering from University of the Andes, Colombia.

Research Interests focus on enhancing security and privacy in critical infrastructures, particularly power and energy systems. His work leverages control theory and optimization to develop frameworks for attack detection, identification, and mitigation in power distribution systems and microgrids with distributed energy resources (DERs) and storage systems. Recent projects include real-time anomaly localization using multi-task learning-based LSTM models.

Grants include: Cybersecurity Education and Training for Mission-Critical Power Systems (2023–2026) and Hybrid Hydropower-Storage Units for Greater Operational Flexibility (2022–2025), both addressing energy system resilience through hybrid technologies.

Professional Activities encompass membership in the IEEE Power and Energy Society (since 2022) and volunteer roles at the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (2023). He also taught an undergraduate research course (2024) at the University of Utah.
