Jae W. Lee is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University at Buffalo (UB), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He is also the Principal Investigator of the FOXG1 Research Center, focused on understanding genetic and epigenetic regulation of hypothalamic development, particularly in arcuate nucleus neurons involved in feeding, energy expenditure, and growth hormone regulation. His research integrates developmental biology, epigenetics, and neurobiology to uncover mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders like FOXG1 syndrome.
Education:
- PhD, Texas A&M University, College Station
Research Interests:
- Epigenetic regulation of neuronal development via histone-modifying complexes like ASCOM (MLL3/MLL4)
- Genetic determinants of hypothalamic neuron diversification
- Gene therapies for neurodevelopmental disorders
- Role of histone demethylases in motor neuron subtype specification
Awards & Grants:
- NIH $2.6M grant to study hypothalamic development
Labs & Teams:
- Lee Lab focuses on molecular mechanisms of neuronal development
- FOXG1 Research Center collaborates globally on syndrome treatments
