Dr. Sharpe's research focuses on United States literature after World War II, with particular interest in postmodern and maximalist texts and digital humanities after the Cold War. Their work examines how authors like David Foster Wallace, Thomas Pynchon, Don DeLillo, and Matthew McIntosh address the emergence of computer algorithms and artificial intelligence. They also contribute to New Media Studies, having published work on the video game Kentucky Route Zero. Their thematic research areas include Science and Technology Studies and War and Conflict Studies.
Their recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the intersection of literature, technology, and economic systems in contemporary American society. These works explore how literary texts engage with concepts of reputation, disclosure practices in the information age, and the impact of Reaganomics on technological efficiency as portrayed in Wallace's works.
Dr. Sharpe began teaching at UBC in 2022 and continues to contribute to the department's undergraduate curriculum.
