Jacqueline M. Bontemps

Dr. Jacqueline M. Bontemps is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at Hampton University. She holds an Ed.D. in Education from Illinois State University and M.A. and B.A. degrees from Fisk University.

Her work spans art criticism, painting, sculpture, graphic design, and photography. Nationally recognized for her scholarship in African American Art and Art History, she has contributed to over forty publications and established theoretical frameworks for analyzing African American women in the arts. She has curated significant exhibitions like Choosing: An Exhibit of Changing Perspectives of Modern Art and Art Criticism by Black Americans, 1925-1985 and Forever Free: Art by African American 1862-1980.
