Dr. Jacqueline Lyon is an Assistant Professor at California State University, Long Beach, affiliated with the Department of Chicano and Latino Studies in the College of Liberal Arts. Her academic work centers on sociocultural anthropology, focusing on the intersections of race, citizenship, and national belonging.
Education:
- PhD in Anthropology from Florida International University
- BA in Political Science and Latin American Latino/a Studies from DePaul University
Dr. Lyon’s research examines how Dominican activist movements articulate demands for racial and national belonging post-citizenship policy revocation. She also explores gentrification through her co-writing and co-executive producing role in the webseries Born & Raised, which highlights Chicago’s urban dynamics. Her current book project, Inherited Illegality: Race, Reproduction and the Fight for Birthright Citizenship in the Dominican Republic, underscores her commitment to critical race and migration studies.
