Jacob Kovalio is a Professor of History at Carleton University specializing in Japanese diplomatic history, foreign policy, and Indo-Pacific international relations. He holds advanced degrees from Tel-Aviv University (B.A.), the University of Pittsburgh (M.A. & Ph.D.).
His research focuses on nationalism, antisemitism, and Chinese geopolitical strategies, with notable contributions to understanding Japan's international relations and Asian political dynamics. Kovalio has organized major conferences including the 25th Annual Japan Studies Association of Canada (2012) and the 2002 Canada-Japan Relations Symposium. He served as JSAC President (1992-93) and led Canadian Asia specialists to Taiwan (2001).
