Jacob Fog Bentzon is a Professor at Aarhus University's Department of Clinical Medicine, leading the Atherosclerosis Research Unit. He investigates cellular mechanisms of atherosclerosis and vascular diseases to develop novel therapies for preventing blood clots in the heart and brain.
His research spans collaborations with the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Madrid and the University of Cambridge, supported by grants from the European Research Council and Novo Nordisk Foundation. He teaches cardiovascular disease processes in the Molecular Cell Physiology 2 course for Molecular Medicine students.
Recent publications focus on smooth muscle cell dynamics, cholesterol metabolism, and translational models like PCSK9 minipigs. Key subfields include extracellular matrix signaling, chemokine pathways, and endothelial-to-mesenchymal transitions.
- Scientific Awards:
- DFF-Forskningsleder 2014
- Daniel Steinberg New Investigator Award 2007
He serves as an editor for Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology (since 2018) and is a member of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Committee for Clinical and Translational Medicine (since 2024). His team supervises PhD projects and contributes to cardiovascular research through molecular and cellular studies.
